After being selected to represent Estonia at the 2026 Venice Biennale, Merike Estna (1980, Tallinn, Estonia) presents her latest project within the Projects Section of Salón ACME and also held a studio visit, offering a more intimate experience to explore her work and creative processes. Estna is a multifaceted artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, performance, and textiles, expanding her brushstrokes beyond the canvas to integrate them into environments, objects, and bodies. Her recent work draws inspiration from history, literature, and myths, intertwining them with contemporary themes and personal narratives. Her connection to Mexican culture, where she has lived and worked for several years, is also reflected in her pieces. The artist explores the heritage of various cultures, incorporating elements ranging from Lydia Koidula’s poetry to the legends surrounding the ruins of Pompeii throughout time.
