After receiving the award at the XVI Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennial, Rafael Uriegas displays his next solo exhibition at Galería Karen Huber. LAGUNA, a set of paintings based on a homonymous drawing that was made based on a series of journeys that Uriegas has carried out for a couple of years on Mexico’s beaches and coastlines. The image chosen by the artist serves in this exhibition as a figurative and pictorial abstraction exercise.
 
In the artist's words: Laguna is a form that I repeated because it intrigues me; It is a study on landscaping and abstraction; on the modern process of sketch / drawing / color; on the construction of an identity. Analyzing the image, I have discovered a certain symbolism in my selection or preference within what I draw. LAGUNA, is a holder of life, water, a uterine space, the raft is in a certain way entering, it is lost and at the same time, there is an allusion to insemination and when entering a place of no return. My approach to the artistic process is intuitive and traditional, part of an accidental tradition to practice a connection exercise, in this equation the artist functions as an antenna: he captures signals and lowers them. There is no idea of ​​mine, there is a somewhat ritual process and hence the challenge consists in letting things take their natural course.
