CARAS INTERIORES (EL CAMINO)

Eva Vanderhorst-Ayache, is a visual artist whose practice moves across painting, installation, writing, and performance, exploring notions of forgetting, presence, and the body.
Her paintings are created on worn bedsheets collected throughout her journeys—surfaces already lived in,
charged with other lives. A fragmented memory is inscribed within them, inherited from a Franco-Algerian
postcolonial context marked by loss, taboos, and zones of silence.
On the fabric, unstable figures emerge at the threshold between erasure and appearance. These forms take
shape within modular sculptural metal structures, where the softness of textiles is set against the rigidity of
the frame, holding the images in a state of suspension.
In this first exhibition in Mexico, “caras interiores” (“inner faces”), the work opens up to the notion of repair as
a space of metamorphosis. The wound is no longer rupture, but passage — a place from which dream, aura,
and color become the site of their transformation.
In this gesture, the angel circulates as a liminal presence, moving through interstices. The butterfly appears
as a figure of shifting states — fragile, elusive — recalling the passage from a terrestrial body into air, from
matter into elevation, from the visible into another regime of perception. The butterfly carries within it the
memory of this ascent: that of a body which, once crawling, tore itself from the ground to reach the sky.
Front-facing gazes leave no distance. They hold us as witnesses. They confront what circulates within us —
faces, affects, memories — and activate a direct experience of what moves, unravels, and reconfigures itself.
Here, something persists: a discreet but tenacious joy, inscribed in the density of a life lived through its transformations.

y la performance, en torno a las nociones de olvido, de presencia y de cuerpo.
Sus pinturas nacen sobre sábanas usadas, recogidas a lo largo de sus desplazamientos — superficies ya atravesadas, cargadas de otras vidas. En ellas se deposita una memoria fragmentada, heredera de un contexto
poscolonial franco-argelino hecho de pérdidas, de tabúes y de zonas de silencio.
Sobre la tela surgen figuras inestables, en el umbral entre el borramiento y la aparición. Estas toman forma
en dispositivos escultóricos modulares de metal, donde la suavidad de los textiles se enfrenta a la rigidez de
la estructura, manteniendo las imágenes en un estado de suspensión.
En esta primera exposición en México, « caras interiores » el trabajo se abre a la noción de reparación como
espacio de metamorfosis. La herida ya no es ruptura, sino tránsito — lugar desde el cual el sueño, el aura y el
color se convierten en el lugar de su transformación.
En este gesto, el ángel circula como presencia liminal, atravesando los intersticios. La mariposa aparece como
figura del basculamiento — frágil, inasible — recordando el paso de un cuerpo terrestre hacia el aire, de una
materia hacia una elevación, de lo visible hacia otro régimen de percepción. La mariposa porta en sí la memoria de esa elevación: la de un cuerpo que, antes reptante, se ha arrancado del suelo para alcanzar el cielo.
Las miradas frontales no dejan distancia. Nos toman como testigos. Confrontan aquello que circula en nosotros — rostros, afectos, memorias — y activan una experiencia directa de lo que se desplaza, se deshace y se
reconfigura.
Aquí, algo insiste: una alegría discreta pero tenaz, inscrita en el espesor de una vida atravesada por sus transformaciones.
