As part of the first edition of CONDO CDMX, Galería Karen Huber is pleased to host PARK VIEW / PAUL SOTO (Los Angeles / Brusleas) who will present Dylan Mira's Duty Free.

While in the Project Room, Vernacular Institute will present Black Language Book Club.

Duty Free is a visual essay around the possible meanings and signifiers that Opium, perfume by Yves Saint Laurent, can have. Be it from his first olfactory memory to connotations of war, drugs, place and femininity. Considering the etymology of the word "orientation", coming from "The East" and therefore Orientalism as a discourse in which knowledge is used as a form of power, Mira begins to question how the body can interrupt or break that line of thought. The piece is a self-theoretical poem that evolves and becomes a painted landscape, with images that go from a shaman who becomes a field of poppies, an animation is the representation of all possible bodies, until the presentation of the “butoh” prima ballerina.

With a focus on contemporary independent publishing and editorial experiments, Black Language Book Club presented by Vernacular Insitute, proposes a dialogue with Dylan Mira's Duty Free exhibition. Black Language Book Club starts from notions of / colonizers evidenced in the body politic, as well as in the definition of performativity that brings into play the tensions between texts, images and graphics.

A series of collaborative presentations encourages invited publications to participate in various events including a pop-up library, readings, screenings and other happenings. CONDO is an international exchange program between galleries. On this occasion, 22 galleries in Mexico City host 26 foreign galleries. The host galleries lend or give space to the guests for the presentation of their exhibitions. The initiative seeks to question the existing models of exposure and visibility abroad, as well as the generation of a community that can share resources to generate a dialogue at the international level.

Como parte de la primera edición de CONDO CDMX, Galería Karen Huber tiene el placer de hospedar a PARK VIEW / PAUL SOTO (Los Ángeles, Brusleas) quien presentara Duty Free de Dylan Mira. Mientras en el Proyect Room, Vernacular Institute presentará Black Language Book Club.


Duty Free es un ensayo visual entorno a los posibles significados y significantes que Opium, perfume de Yves Saint Laurent, puede tener. Ya sea desde su primer recuerdo olfativo hasta connotaciones de guerra, droga, lugar y feminidad. Considerando la etimología de la palabra “orientación”, proveniente de “Él Oriente” y por tanto el orientalismo como un discurso en el que el conocimiento es utilizado como forma de poder, Mira comienza a cuestionarse cómo el cuerpo puede interrumpir o quebrar esa línea de pensamiento. La pieza es un poema auto teorético que evoluciona y se va convirtiendo en un paisaje pintado, con imágenes que van de un chamán que se convierte en un campo de amapolas, una animación es la representación de todos los posibles cuerpos, hasta la presentación de la primera bailarina de butoh.



Con un enfoque en publicaciones independientes contemporáneas y experimentos editoriales, Black Language Book Club presentado por Vernacular Insitute, propone un diálogo con la exposición Duty Free de Dylan Mira. Black Language Book Club parte de nociones de/colonizadoras evidenciadas en el cuerpo político, al igual que en la definición de la performatividad que pone en juego las tensiones entre textos, imágenes y gráficos. Una serie de presentaciones colaborativas incita a las publicaciones invitadas a participar en diversos eventos incluyendo una librería pop up, lecturas, proyecciones y otros happenings.



CONDO es un programa internacional de intercambio entre galerías. En esta ocasión, 22 galerías de la Ciudad de México reciben a 26 galerías extranjeras. Las galerías anfitrionas prestan o ceden el espacio a las invitadas para la presentación de sus exposiciones. La iniciativa busca cuestionar los modelos existentes de exposición y visibilidad en el extranjero, así como la generación de una comunidad que puede compartir recursos para generar un diálogo a nivel internacional.
