STRAIGHT FROM SAN ANTONIO

As part of an international exchange program, the Karen Huber Gallery seeks to create dialogue and promotional strategies for national and foreign artists. On this occasion we are pleased to present the exhibition Straight from San Antonio in which artists represented by the American Gallery Ruiz-Healy Art participate: Jesse Amado, Cecilia Biagini, Nate Cassie, Constance Lowe and Ethel Shipton.
Five artists who have explored the substantive implications of the contemporary world in abstraction. Coupled with a conceptual practice that crosses the lyrical tradition to generate a political positioning of their creative contexts. As is the case with Jesse Amado, who takes a stand against the pharmaceutical industry and clinical aesthetics. Or Constance Lowe, where her work refers to agricultural fields, placing a tension between the natural landscape and the economic landscape.
In Nate Cassie's case, his plastic exploration is a constant intellectual exercise around the pictorial and its spatial meanings, both formal and social. Similar is the case of Cecilia Biagini. Finally, Ethel Shipton has found in artistic practice the possibility of reflecting on borders, work and femininity, surrounding these themes around textiles, installations, graphics and the object.
Cecilia Biagini is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. The abstract exploration of his painting tends to the visceral and invites the viewer to be absorbed by the time and space of it, entering the flow of deep tones and geometric lines, characteristic of his work. Biagini has exhibited works at MoMA PS1, New York; The Instituto Cervantes in Rome, Italy; Museum of Fine Arts of Houston, Texas; and the Museum of Modern Art, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Jesse Amado is known for his conceptual and highly formalist work. In his work, he uses the forms, colors and images of industrial media to create questions about contemporary culture. His works are part of important collections such as the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, Washington D.C .; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX; Linda Pace Foundation, San Antonio, TX; and El Museo del Barrio, New York, NY, among others.
Nate Cassie is originally from Somerville, New Jersey. His artistic practice can be described as a work on the "intermediate spaces" or the gaps that exist between the surface and the volume, the skin and the structure, the form and the intuitive. His art connects abstraction with the universal human condition and the space between oneself and the other. His work has been exhibited at Corcoran Gallery Art, Washington D.C .; McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, TX; and Artpace, San Antonio, Tx.
Ethel Shipton pays tribute to her hometown Laredo, Texas in her Casitas series. Much of his artistic practice focuses on community and neighborhood issues. She herself has said that it was in San Antonio, where she currently lives, where she found the true sense of union with the creative community. The festive use of materials in his works is related to the idea of community and togetherness that the Southtown environments have provided. Shipton's works can be found in major collections such as AT&T and Capital One, The McNay Art Museum, and the Linda Pace Foundation, San Antonio, TX.
Constance Lowe is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. Lives and works in San Antonio. Her work combines influences from her Midwestern heritage, related to farms and agriculture, landscape photography, and abstract geometric painting. His work explores the physical and psychological aspect of materials, as well as the formal qualities of the works. His works have been exhibited at Artpace, San Antonio, TX; Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, AZ; and Monash University, Caulfield, Australia, among others.
Como parte de un programa de intercambios internacionales, la galería Karen Huber busca generar estrategias de diálogos y de promoción para los artistas nacionales y extranjeros. En esta ocasión nos complacemos en presentar la exposición Straight from San Antonio en la que participan artistas representados por la galería estadounidense Ruiz-Healy Art: Jesse Amado, Cecilia Biagini, Nate Cassie, Constance Lowe y Ethel Shipton.
Cinco artistas que han explorado en la abstracción las implicaciones sustantivas del mundo contemporáneo. Aunado con una práctica conceptual que atraviesa la tradición lírica para generar un posicionamiento político de sus contextos creativos. Como es el caso de Jesse Amado, quien toma postura frente a la industria farmacéutica y la estética clínica. O Constance Lowe, donde su obra refiere a los campos agrícolas emplazando una tensión entre el paisaje natural y el paisaje económico.
En el caso de Nate Cassie su exploración plástica es un constante ejercicio intelectual alrededor de lo pictórico y sus acepciones espaciales, tanto formales como sociales. Parecido es el caso de Cecilia Biagini. Finalmente, Ethel Shipton ha encontrado en la práctica artística la posibilidad de reflexionar sobre las fronteras, el trabajo y la feminidad, circundando estos temas alrededor del textil, la instalación, la gráfica y el objeto.

Cecilia Biagini es originaria de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Vive y trabaja en Brooklyn, Nueva York. La exploración abstracta de su pintura tiende a lo visceral e invita al espectador a ser absorbido por el tiempo y espacio de la misma, adentrándose en el flujo de profundas tonalidades y trazos geométricos, característicos de su obra. Biagini ha expuesto obras en MoMA PS1, Nueva York; El Instituto Cervantes de Roma, Italia; Museo de Bellas Artes de Houston, Texas; y el Museo de Arte Moderno, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Jesse Amado es conocido por su obra conceptual y altamente formalista. En su obra utiliza las formas, colores e imágenes de medios industriales para crear cuestionamientos sobre la cultura contemporánea. Ella misma ha dicho que fue en San Antonio, donde actualmente vive, donde encontró el verdadero sentido de unión con la comunidad creativa.
